Tree Planting in Suffolk at Walsham Jubilee Wood
Walsham Jubilee Wood is a community woodland that was created during 2012 in the Suffolk village of Walsham-le-Willows.
IMPORTANT VISITOR INFO – Take only photos. Leave only footsteps.
To keep the woodland as natural as possible we don’t label individual trees and we ask that visitors do not place their own plaques, labels, flowers, etc in the woodland. Each tree we plant should be seen as part of a natural woodland.
Before visiting this woodland, please read our Frequently Asked Questions page, which gives you helpful tips about your tree and visitor guidance.
In 2012 the Walsham Wild Wood Steering Group (WWWSG) secured a 99 year lease for a 1 hectare plot from a long established village charity. The plot had been rather poor quality arable land and planting began that autumn and was completed over the following 5 years.
All the planting and subsequent maintenance of the wood has been by members of the WWWSG with the help of many people from the community. The wood includes various rides and glades and now contains over 30 species of native trees and shrubs and over 60 species of flowering plants.
The wood is well used by the community for informal recreation and for seasonal events such as the Easter Egg trail and the Pumpkin trail. It is regularly used by all age groups from the village Primary School and the Pre School.
In 2022 the WWWSG secured a similar lease from the same village charity for a neighbouring 2 acre field.
The newly planted trees will help improve the biodiversity of the area and provide a habitat and food source for wildlife.
