Tumbledown Community Growspace is a new community farm and woodland overlooking the sea near Weymouth.

To keep the woodland as natural as possible we don’t label individual trees and we ask that visitors do not place their own plaques, labels, flowers, etc in the woodland. Each tree we plant should be seen as part of a natural woodland.

We’ve planted so many trees here that there isn’t any space to plant more.
We hope to be able to plant here again in future years.

Tumbledown is a beautiful, 27 acre former farm owned by Weymouth Town Council. They have been developing the land into a community asset by producing and selling local fruit and veg, supporting people with volunteering and learning opportunities, and protecting the local environment for the benefit of their community.
The core principle and priority driving the development of Tumbledown is working with the community to manage the land in a sustainable way, so that it allows a wide variety of people to have meaningful experiences that can deliver high levels of social benefits.
They have established an area of raised beds where people, who have difficulties with mobility, can help to grow food. Building a classroom, accessible toilets and teaching kitchen is helping to improve the facilities at the farm too.
Tumbledown has even started to produce their own branded pickles, preserves, chutneys, burgers and soups, using much of the produce grown on the farm.
They also have a small area of woodland, which is set up as a Forest School space.
Planting the new mix of native tree species at Tumbledown helps increase the biodiversity of the land.
Part of the planting is a copse area that borders a permissive footpath, which links with two public footpaths and is bordered to the south by a large mature hedge. This helps improve the existing wildlife corridor and provides more shelter and food sources for wildlife.
The trees and new hedgerows will help to stock proof their wildflower meadow so that they can introduce light grazing at the end of the summer to help with the diversity of the flora in the meadow.

Tree Species at Tumbledown Community Growspace
Since 2023 / 2024 EFORESTS has worked with the land owners and local volunteers to plant 350 new native tree species.
