Tree Planting in Lincolnshire at Sykes Farm Plantation

Sykes Farm woodland, at Gibraltar Point nature reserve, was originally planted around 50 years ago. The new planting includes a shelter belt that is a significant roost site for over-wintering birds.

To keep the woodland as natural as possible we don’t label individual trees and we ask that visitors do not place their own plaques, labels, flowers, etc in the woodland. Each tree we plant should be seen as part of a natural woodland.

Sykes Farm at Gibraltar Point is managed by The Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust. Sykes Farm Plantation was originally planted around 50 years ago, this wood surrounds a historic working farm and consists of mainly native broad leaved species.

The new woodland is an area where visitors can enjoy and learn about natural history. The main planting area will spread across 2 acres.

A tree shelter belt is also being restored as it's a significant roost site for over-wintering thrushes such as redwings, song thrushes and blackbirds.

Some shrubs have also been planted, in the wildlife garden project at the Visitor Centre, to promote the use of native tree species to visitors and highlight the specific benefits of each species eg: berries, early nectar, food for important invertebrate communities etc.

Since 2021 EFORESTS has worked with the land owners and local volunteers to plant 605 new native tree species.
