Snitterfield Bushes

Tree Planting in Warwickshire at Snitterfield Bushes

Snitterfield Bushes is a 44 hectare nature reserve that once formed part of a much larger area of semi-natural, broad-leaved woodland.

IMPORTANT VISITOR INFO – Take only photos. Leave only footsteps.

To keep the woodland as natural as possible we don’t label individual trees and we ask that visitors do not place their own plaques, labels, flowers, etc in the woodland. Each tree we plant should be seen as part of a natural woodland.

Before visiting this woodland, please read our Frequently Asked Questions page, which gives you helpful tips about your tree and visitor guidance.

Snitterfield Bushes is managed by Warwickshire Wildlife Trust and is a nature reserve that has SSSI status.

It was natural forest for centuries when the wood was used for timber, common pasture and agriculture. You can still see old ridge and furrow plough markings in some areas of the reserve.

The site was used as an airfield during the 2nd World War and traces of the old concrete runway network and bomb stores can be found towards the centre of the reserve. Following clear-felling of the woodland in the 1940s, the site has now been returned to its current excellence through careful management.

This woodland is managed by Warwickshire Wildlife Trust and EFORESTS have worked with the trust and local volunteers to plant hundreds trees across the site.

The site is covered by a woodland management plan aimed at diversifying the structure of the woodland to enhance habitats for wildlife. The planting area covers 5ha of woodland thinned out in response to the disease ash dieback. As the woodland is primarily ash the focus of this planting is to improve the diversity of species and aid the woodlands recovery to the disease.

The newly planted trees will help improve the biodiversity of the woodland as well as provide shelter and food sources for wildlife.
