Tree Planting in Essex at Silver Lake

Silver Lake is a 30 acre woodland based on a former quarry.

IMPORTANT VISITOR INFOTake only photos. Leave only footsteps.

To keep the woodland as natural as possible we don’t label individual trees and we ask that visitors do not place their own plaques, labels, flowers, etc in the woodland. Each tree we plant should be seen as part of a natural woodland.

Before visiting this woodland, please read our Frequently Asked Questions page, which gives you helpful tips about your tree and visitor guidance.

Silver Lake is a 30 acre woodland based in an old quarry, which stopped working over 60 years ago. The woodland naturally grew and it was briefly managed by Essex Wildlife Trust.

The current owners bought the woodland in 2017 and are restoring the woodland back to its former glory. They are in the stages of coppicing and replanting trees to replace trees that have been lost or damaged over the years. They are also introducing new species and biodiversity to the woodland.

Silver Lake has mature trees such as Silver Birch, Willow, Oak and Rowan.

The owners have plans to open an educational centre and forest school set within the woodland. They are aiming to make woodland trails for the local community to have access to the trees and the amazing wildlife that is on site.

The new trees will help improve the area's biodiversity and provide shelter for wildlife.
