Tree Planting in Warwickshire at Oakley Wood
Oakley Wood is a substantial area of predominantly conifer plantation located on an ancient woodland site.
IMPORTANT VISITOR INFO – Take only photos. Leave only footsteps.
To keep the woodland as natural as possible we don’t label individual trees and we ask that visitors do not place their own plaques, labels, flowers, etc in the woodland. Each tree we plant should be seen as part of a natural woodland.
Before visiting this woodland, please read our Frequently Asked Questions page, which gives you helpful tips about your tree and visitor guidance.
Oakley Wood is managed by Warwickshire Wildlife Trust on behalf of the land owner Warwick District Council. It is a 48 hectare PAWS site.
Oakley Wood is a substantial area of predominantly conifer plantation located on an ancient woodland site. The dominant tree species is Scots pine with varying proportions of European larch and Douglas fir. Native broadleaves are present throughout much of the woodland, both as young regeneration and more mature trees.
With an overall ambition to restore the site to native broadleaves, recent management has focused on thinning to reduce the proportion of conifers and promote natural regeneration. Other works include widening of rides and clearing around ponds which has significantly improved the wildlife value of the site. The site includes the scheduled monument of Oakley Wood Camp, a univallate hillfort which is partially covered in trees and brambles.
The site has a reasonable network of rides and footpaths, which are well travelled by walkers and visitors from the neighbouring crematorium.
