Lyncombe Hill Fields

Tree Planting in Dorset at Lyncombe Hill Fields

Lyncombe Hill Fields is a rewilding project that will create a therapeutic community and growing space on the outskirts of Bath, Somerset.

IMPORTANT VISITOR INFOTake only photos. Leave only footsteps.

To keep the woodland as natural as possible we don’t label individual trees and we ask that visitors do not place their own plaques, labels, flowers, etc in the woodland. Each tree we plant should be seen as part of a natural woodland.

Before visiting this woodland, please read our Frequently Asked Questions page, which gives you helpful tips about your tree and visitor guidance.

The rewilding project is managed by the Friends of Lyncombe Hill Fields group, whose mission is to conserve and enhance the biodiversity of the land and maintain its wild nature whilst safeguarding public access.

Their therapeutic community and growing space will include supported walking pathways for the infirm, spaces for open air craft/group therapy work and growing spaces for community food projects.

It will be based on a permaculture growing model, with a further focus of drawing in as many indigenous species as possible.

The newly planted trees will be planted as a "tiny forest", with the aim of getting very fast rates of vertical growth and to produce a thick, almost impenetrable grove of trees.

This grows into a forest so dense that, after a short while, sunlight can’t reach the ground. At this point, every drop of rain that falls is conserved, and every leaf that falls is converted into humus. Thick helps to greatly enhance biodiversity and act as a haven and food source for wildlfe.
