Tree Planting in Devon at Kitley Wood

Kitley Wood is a new, 5 acre community woodland near Yealmpton, Devon. A former eucalyptus plantation has been replanted with a mixture of native broadleaf and evergreen tree species.

IMPORTANT VISITOR INFOTake only photos. Leave only footsteps.

To keep the woodland as natural as possible we don’t label individual trees and we ask that visitors do not place their own plaques, labels, flowers, etc in the woodland. Each tree we plant should be seen as part of a natural woodland.

Before visiting this woodland, please read our Frequently Asked Questions page, which gives you helpful tips about your tree and visitor guidance.

Kitley Wood was, until recently, an old eucalyptus tree plantation with very little biodiversity.

A mixture of woodland and wildflower meadow areas are being created in order to improve the biodiversity of the area as well as providing a variety of habitats and food sources for wildlife.

Across the 5 acre site the new trees are planted in tall, protective shelters. These help protect them from deer, that like to feed on the young leaves, which can damage or even kill the young trees.
