Tree Planting in Yorkshire at Gledhow Valley Woods

Gledhow Valley Woods is an urban greenspace covering 1.5 km and is completely surrounded by housing.

IMPORTANT VISITOR INFOTake only photos. Leave only footsteps.

To keep the woodland as natural as possible we don’t label individual trees and we ask that visitors do not place their own plaques, labels, flowers, etc in the woodland. Each tree we plant should be seen as part of a natural woodland.

Before visiting this woodland, please read our Frequently Asked Questions page, which gives you helpful tips about your tree and visitor guidance.

Gledhow Valley Woods is owned by Leeds City Council and the long established Wade's charity. The Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods hold monthly action mornings to maintain the area.

They are one of the largest conservation groups in the city with 50 regular volunteers. In collaboration with Leeds city Council and Wade's charity they have recently completed a £100,000 NLHF project to restore the historic Gledhow lake in the woods.

They also open the Gipton Spa bathhouse in the woods for National Heritage open days each year.

The woods are greatly loved and very well used by the diverse surrounding communities.

Mature tree coverage in the woods is a mix of mainly beech and sycamore with small numbers of ash, oak and horse chestnut.
