Tree Planting in Yorkshire at Frickley Woods
Frickley Woods is part of a former colliery site that was re-developed a number of years ago, in South Elmsall, West Yorkshire.
IMPORTANT VISITOR INFO – Take only photos. Leave only footsteps.
To keep the woodland as natural as possible we don’t label individual trees and we ask that visitors do not place their own plaques, labels, flowers, etc in the woodland. Each tree we plant should be seen as part of a natural woodland.
Before visiting this woodland, please read our Frequently Asked Questions page, which gives you helpful tips about your tree and visitor guidance.
* THIS WOODLAND IS Temporarily Full *
We’ve planted so many trees here that there isn’t any space to plant more.
We hope to be able to plant here again in future years.
For the nearest alternative woodlands take a look at the Woodlands Locations Map.
Frickley Woods is taken care of by local community groups and the local parish council.
Key futures of the land include two ponds and a 624m long path, that marks the depth of the main mining shaft, with huge stones marking their locations.
Talks are underway of planting fruit and nut groves around the land for local people to harvest in the future.
The newly planted areas will be a welcome addition to the existing trees as well as help improve the biodiversity of the site. The trees will also provide a valuable food source and habitat for wildlife.
