To keep the woodland as natural as possible we don’t label individual trees and we ask that visitors do not place their own plaques, labels, flowers, etc in the woodland. Each tree we plant should be seen as part of a natural woodland.

Farthing Field is a 3 acre parcel of former agricultural land close to Great Bromley, on the outskirts of Colchester.

The new owners purchased the land in 2020 with the intention of wilding the field, improving soil quality, encouraging biodiversity and planting trees to help sequester carbon whilst providing a haven for local wildlife.

The owners have sown a wild flower meadow, keep bees and have planted a small orchard with wild cherry, bird cherry and apple trees.
