Deepdale Wood
Tree Planting on the Redcar & Cleveland / Yorkshire border at Deepdale Wood
Deepdale Wood is on the outskirts of Loftus, near the North Yorkshire border.
IMPORTANT VISITOR INFO – Take only photos. Leave only footsteps.
To keep the woodland as natural as possible we don’t label individual trees and we ask that visitors do not place their own plaques, labels, flowers, etc in the woodland. Each tree we plant should be seen as part of a natural woodland.
Before visiting this woodland, please read our Frequently Asked Questions page, which gives you helpful tips about your tree and visitor guidance.
* THIS WOODLAND IS Temporarily Full *
We’ve planted so many trees here that there isn’t any space to plant more.
We hope to be able to plant here again in future years.

Deepdale Wood is being extended, by about an acre, with a newly planted area of woodland. This has been recently transformed to give the general public access to all the benefits and education features of a woodland.
It also runs alongside a newly created wetland drainage channel from a new pond that was created in the wood. The woodland has been transformed into an accessible space for the community and visitors.
There is a new loop path through the woodland, which is to be used as a recovery walk for people recovering from Stroke and Heart Attack as well as those suffering Dementia or Alzheimer's.
It has had a Boardwalk installed with a viewing platform over the newly created wetland and pond which has a 'leaky bund' that will slow down the flow of water to Skinningrove village which is below the woodland.
The woodland is currently looked after by volunteer groups from the local and surrounding area.
The next steps are to create and education space which will be used by local schools and community groups, a sensory garden on the edge of the woodland and a history trail where people can learn about the Saxon heritage of the site.
The woodland as it is now covers 4.6 acres of land, the dominant tree species within the existing woodland are Ash, Beech, Sycamore and several Oaks. Smaller species such as Blackthorn, Hawthorn and Hazel are also present throughout the site.
The new planted area will cover approximately one acre of land in total and it will be a welcome addition to the existing site.
