Auldcathie District Park
Tree Planting near Edinburgh at Auldcathie District Park
Auldcathie District Park covers over 80 acres of land converted from an old landfill site. It includes new woodland, community growing spaces, sports fields and much more.
IMPORTANT VISITOR INFO – Take only photos. Leave only footsteps.
To keep the woodland as natural as possible we don’t label individual trees and we ask that visitors do not place their own plaques, labels, flowers, etc in the woodland. Each tree we plant should be seen as part of a natural woodland.
Before visiting this woodland, please read our Frequently Asked Questions page, which gives you helpful tips about your tree and visitor guidance.
Auldcathie District Park is located in Winchburgh, several miles to the west of Edinburgh.
The park was created in 2021 and named after Auldcathie Church, built around 1400, whose ruins are visible adjacent to bridge 34 on the nearby Union Canal.
The park has been converted from an old landfill site and now incorporates many facilities such as cycle tracks, fitness trails, play facilities, community growing areas, community orchard, informal sports pitches and biodiversity areas.
The park has views across to the Forth Bridges and the Pentland Hills.
The first phase of tree planting started in recent years when the new park expanded to over 40 acres. It included the planting of over 15,000 new woodland trees and shrubs by the community to create the first part of the community woodland.
More tree planting phases are planned and EFORESTS is excited to be working with the local community groups to expand the existing woodlands, as well as create new woodland areas.
The newly planted trees will increase the biodiversity of the land as well as providing food and shelter for wildlife.
