Frederick’s Wood

Tree Planting in Norfolk at Frederick’s Wood

Frederick's Wood is approximately 150 years old and mostly planted with Beech trees. A wider variety of tree species are being planted there over the next few years to improve the biodiversity of the woodlands for all to enjoy.

To keep the woodland as natural as possible we don’t label individual trees and we ask that visitors do not place their own plaques, labels, flowers, etc in the woodland. Each tree we plant should be seen as part of a natural woodland.

Before visiting this woodland, please read our Frequently Asked Questions page, which gives you helpful tips about your tree and visitor guidance.

Frederick's Wood is an area of public woodland in the middle of the Woodlands housing estate, off Croxton Road in Thetford.

The wood is owned by Thetford Town Council. It is thought to have been planted up approximately 150+ years ago and is dominated by mature beech trees, but lacks much in the way of lower layers or natural regeneration.

Adding a greater mix of trees species will take the site forwards as a more mixed deciduous woodland with greater biodiversity for all to enjoy.
