Tree Planting in Northamptonshire at Deanshanger Pocket Park
Deanshanger Pocket Park is situated in the valley of the River Ouse, only 2km north east of Milton Keynes.
A large pond within the Pocket Park contains Great Crested Newts which are rare and legally protected. Native species hedgerows have been planted along the boundaries of the meadows, near to the old pollarded willows.
IMPORTANT VISITOR INFO – Take only photos. Leave only footsteps.
To keep the woodland as natural as possible we don’t label individual trees and we ask that visitors do not place their own plaques, labels, flowers, etc in the woodland. Each tree we plant should be seen as part of a natural woodland.
Before visiting this woodland, please read our Frequently Asked Questions page, which gives you helpful tips about your tree and visitor guidance.

The site is managed for nature conservation and public access and is used as an educational resource for both local schools and the Scouts.
The site contains areas of medieval ridge and furrow and the remains of a Roman settlement. The area was previously acquired by the Ready Mix Concrete Company, with the intention of mineral extraction.
They were refused planning permission and then decided to sell the land to the parish.
The pond is managed for the protection of the Great Crested Newts while the meadow is managed as a hay meadow, and is grazed by rare breeds of sheep. The large willows are being pollarded to extend their lives and support more wildlife. A tree and hedgerow shelter belt is being developed on the bypass side of the site.
